The Tannahill Centre is the beating heart of Ferguslie Park, a vital hub bringing together our community through meaningful connection and support. Home to a range of essential local services and businesses, the Centre goes beyond its role as a community space to foster a thriving atmosphere with a diverse mix of community-led activities.

With initiatives that empower, educate, and uplift, we aim to nurture the growth and potential of Ferguslie Park, strengthening the bonds that make our community resilient and vibrant.

 ABOUT US

The Tannahill Centre is a community hub located at the heart of Ferguslie Park, Renfrewshire.  As well as being home to seven commercial leaseholders, who all pay rent and services charges that enable us to hire out spaces to the local community at a heavily reduced rate, we also act as Ferguslie Park's Community Anchor Organisation.

As a Community Anchor Organisation we play a supportive and nurturing role to much of the informal action of volunteers or unconstituted groups in Ferguslie Park.  This ranges from providing informal and formal training to volunteers, funding and supporting unconstituted and smaller constituted groups to help deliver their activities within the community and collaborating across the community to ensure the needs of as many people are met in new and creative ways.

   OUR STORY

We are a subsidiary of Ferguslie Park Housing Association, working together to realise our share core purpose to regenerate.

Our vision is to ensure that Ferguslie park is fulfilling its full potential

As a community anchor organisation, we bring local people together to support one another, learn new skills, and use these skills to address community challenges.

We have three main strands of work that we can accept donations for.

Food insecurity

To address food insecurity and poverty, we have implemented several key initiatives. Our seniors' lunch club serves up to 50 older adults with a nutritious two-course meal three days a week. The “T in the Tanny” program offers free, Breakfast, tea, toast, and soup daily.

Our weekly community market, or pantry, is a cornerstone of our food security efforts. Volunteers distribute food valued over £20 for a nominal fee of £3.50, which is waived if necessary.

Mental health and well being

Wellbeing is another critical focus of our work. We offer free yoga and women’s exercise classes, as well as mental health support groups for both a number of demographics. We support individuals with addictions through various groups, including a ‘Wednesday drop-in and host meetings for CA, AA, OA, and NA. Additionally, we offer a free in-house counsellor service to any of our volunteers. Our community choir, boasting over 35 members, recently performed at the King’s coronation, boosting the wellbeing and confidence of everyone who attended.

Youth work

Youth engagement is also a priority. Our established youth worker coordinates youth clubs provisions. We offer volunteer-led activities such as music-based sessions, instrument and singing lessons, and open mic nights. These activities provide a creative outlet for young people and also foster leadership and community involvement.
